Family Activities in Val d’Isere

Anna | October 1, 2019

When you think of the world’s top ski resorts, it’s difficult not to put Val d’Isere up there.  Incredible skiing combined with some of the best ski holiday chalets, restaurants and après the Alps has to offer.

For families, Val d’Isere does not disappoint either. As well as having an excellent array of slopes to suit all abilities, and a nursery slope right in the heart of the village, there are plenty of family friendly luxury chalets and everything from babysitters to private nannies and a large village creche with brilliant facilities.

There are also a great choice of ski schools offering snow kindergarten and ski school classes from the age of three years.  High on the list is Oxygène, recognised internationally as one of the best children’s ski schools in the Alps and dividing lessons and groups by ability and age, teaching solely in English and keeping group sizes small.

Aside from skiing and when not enjoying your Val d’Isere luxury chalet there are plenty of things for families to do off the slopes to keep children of all ages entertained.

Don’t forget our friendly in-house concierge team can arrange any of these fantastic family friendly activities alongside your Val d’Isere luxury chalet holiday.

Here’s The Chalet Edits pick of the best ‘Family Activities in Val d’Isere’.
VISIT THE FARM – Take the family into the Manchet valley and discover the Ferme de l’Adroit.  The 30 dairy cows are milked daily at 5.30pm and you can buy some of the delicious cheeses they produce on site. There is also a restaurant.
GRAB A MILKSHAKE – Hidden at the back of the Quicksilver shop is a Roxy Quicksilver Café & Restaurant.  With a fun, young and relaxed atmosphere, this American diner serves food such as burgers, wraps, milkshakes and ice-cream deserts.  Open 7 days a week for brunch, lunch and dinner – from 09.00 to 22.00.

GET ACTIVE IN THE AQUA SPORTS CENTRE – The swimming pool and sports centre in Val d’Isere (The Centre Aqua Sportif) offer swimming, climbing, gym/fitness, squash, indoor football, volleyball, a children’s play area and more.  It is split into five main areas – Beach World, Spa World, Sports World, Well-being World and Lounge World. There is something for everyone!

*Entry to the swimming pool is often included if you have a ski pass so it is worth checking to see if this is the case when you buy your pass*

GO ICE-KARTING – Trade in the skis for wheels and go-kart on ice!  Head to La Daille – just outside Val d’Isere – where, hidden in the valley and surrounded by rivers and fir trees, is the ice-karting circuit.  The track accommodates a variety of unique ice experiences from learning how to drive a piste-basher to driving on snow and ice in a controlled fashion, whilst families will love racing one another around the ice-karting track.
GET YOUR SKATES ON – Enjoy the beautiful mountain views whilst playing around on some skates.  The outdoor ice-rink in Val d’Isere, just on the nursery slope, is open from 15:00-20:00 every day and is a fun thing to do with the family.
TOBOGGAN ON THE NURSERY SLOPES – Tobogganing is great fun for all the family and the Val d’Isere nursery slopes right in the centre of town provide the perfect setting for this. Sledges are easily hired from the local ski hire shops surrounding the nursery slope area.
TRY YOUR HAND AT 10 PIN BOWLING – Strike it lucky with a trip to the miniature bowling alley located in the stunning 5* Hotel Les Barmes de l’Ours, perfect for snowy days. Booking in advance is required and can be organised by The Chalet Edit in-house concierge team.
