Le Vaffieu, Morzine – Ideally located in a quiet spot at the top of Pleney and next to the top of the Belvedere Chairlift, Le Vaffieu should be at the top of everyone’s list. They have a wonderful, cosy Savoyard style interior dining area and a large heated covered indoor/outdoor area, plus a sunny terrace. The menu offers a good choice of great freshly prepared dishes and not your usual Savoyard style, using many local ingredients.
Les Chasse Montagne, Les Gets – The restaurant building was originally an old farm, but was renovated and is now a blend of traditional elements with stylish, modern touches, which gives that cosy, rustic feel you expect in the French Alps. The restaurant serves up all the Savoyard favourites including raclette and fondue, as well a variety of delicious artfully prepared meals.
Chez Crepy, Chatel – This gorgeous and spacious old farm building in Plaine Dranse has been feeding and watering hungry skiers for 30 years and is split into 2 offerings – a quick ‘self-service’ eatery and a more refined and relaxed restaurant, which never fails to impress. s. In the restaurant, enjoy one of the Savoyard specialities such as Berthoud, Fondue or Croute as well as delicious ‘plat du jour’ specials each day.
Le Wetzet, Les Gets (360 Chemin des Grangettes, +33 6 76 74 35 95) is a small, homely wooden mountain hut where the service is almost invariably good and the traditional French cuisine likewise.
La Païka, Les Gets – Located on the slopes of La Turche slopes in Les Gets is an authentic French restaurant with a terrace drenched in sunshine offering unspoiled views across the valley. Specialities include meat, poultry and fish grilled on the wood-fired barbecue and there’s a sumptuous buffet of homemade desserts.
Les Lhottys Restaurant, Morzine (+33 4 50 34 92 09) (Better known to regulars as ‘Lhotty’s Hut’) is located at the top of the Nauchets chair lift, 1670m up. It’s a great choice for regional specialities including tartiflette or onion soup and has a good vegetarian range too. There’s a great sheltered terrace if the weather is good.
Chez Nannon, Morzine– run by the Baud family up at Nyon is a small traditional French mountain restaurant that’s almost universally loved by Morzine regulars, primarily as it gets the basics spot-on: good food, good service and fair pricing.
La Terrasse des Lindarets, Avoriaz – At the heart of the traditional goat village, La Terrasse at Lindarets offers delicious Savoyard cuisine. You can’t beat the sunny terrace – it’s a perfect spot to have a long lunch on a bluebird day.
Pont de Nyon, Les Gets – French cuisine in a large chalet setting, don’t expect quick service this if for long lunches.
