The Chalet Edit & Chalet V Press Trip - March 2023

Anna | March 30, 2023

After visiting stunning Chalet V in La Tzoumaz, Director of The Chalet Edit Anna Sampson shares her experience of this secluded paradise.

Arriving in Chalet V, La Tzoumaz is like arriving in paradise, utterly secluded and surrounded
by breath-taking panoramic mountain views. Patrick and Zoe the owners greet you with
warm smiles and open arms, letting you into their beautiful home as if you are being
welcomed back, not arriving for the first time. Nico the chef has prepared bitesize stuffed
potatoes and delicious chicken skewers all washed down with our choice of white or rose
champagne on the terrace, with comfy seating and fire-pit ablaze.

Chalet V, sits on the sunny side of the valley, just outside La Tzoumaz, a little know resort
that is part of the vast 4 valleys ski area and most importantly directly linked to the chic
village of Verbier and its vast selection of Verbier Luxury Chalets. It’s a short gondola ride up
and down again for non-skiers and then you are in the heart of Verbier where you can take
in lunch at the Chalet d’Adrien at the foot of the Savoleyers gondola where you dismount,
before heading into Verbier village for a drink at the W Hotel. From here non-skiers can
easily tap into Verbiers fine dining on-piste too, taking the Medran bubble up to Montfort
for lunch at over 3000 metres. Of course you could always clip on your skis and do the same
route, but what is important is the sheer ease of access to such a vast and exclusive ski
resort, whilst being tucked away in pure privacy at Chalet V.

La Tzoumaz is set up well for families with a local creche offering childcare from 4 years
throughout the day and a baby slope that is set to one side of the village, so children will not
get mown down by overzealous skiers! Things are poised for growth in the area with the
children slopes set for an upgrade next season to connect it more easily to the centre of La
Tzoumaz.

The village of La Tzoumaz itself has a handful of cheery bars and restaurants. Le Blanc
opposite the ski lift has stunning views of the valley below and is great for après ski, as is the
T bar across the road. For dining out in the evenings Papillion and the Auberge La Tzoumaz
are high on the must try list.

Back at Chalet V, the sun is pouring into the beautifully designed double height living area
with its stunning Eos Vita feathered lights, Bocci orb lighting and custom made Berto Salotti
sofas. Patricks walk through of the chalet brings us out onto the lower terrace with it’s
outdoor pool, heated to 32 degrees year round, huge 8 man outdoor hot tub and the
vintage ski gondola complete with the Chalet V logo of course, inspired by a Chanel
handbag. All bedrooms have plenty of storage and the bedding and pillows are of the
highest quality, the beds themselves are marshmallow soft and make for the deepest night
sleep imaginable.
Nico the chef lives and breathes Chalet V, preparing food that is fresh, unbelievably tasty,
healthy and locally sourced. From pink veal to fresh lobster with tomato, basil and garlic, to
a cote du boeuf with fondant potato. Every detail is thought of and all dietary needs catered
for in advance.
What really sets Chalet V apart is the level of detail and care put into every moment. From
the bathroom vanity stocked with Hermes shower gel, Tiffany moisturiser , Kerastase hair
products and lip salves to the minute Nordic sweet treats to take with you on the slopes.
Beautiful Alpinte glassware and vintage Hermes table wear adorn the table during meal
times.
At The Chalet Edit, we like our clients to experience something a little out of the ordinary
and organised local vigneron Thierry Constantin, lauded by Gault & Millau as one of the best
winemakers in Switzerland, to teach us all about growing and producing wine from the
Valais region. Sampling his beautiful Petite Arvine wine, delicious Vieilles Vignes Pinot Noir
2021 and his delicious sweet wine the “Larme de December” made from grapes that dry
naturally on the vine. Thierry’s knowledge and enthusiasm for his craft is spellbinding and
completely unique and something that must be experienced when visiting this region.

Getting to and from Chalet V into Town is a breeze, it’s a short 3 minute scenic drive into
down town Tzoumaz, In the smart new 7 seater van with 24/7 driver service. The chalet has
3 parking slots in a central underground car park with its own ski and boot room here that
mirrors the same high end interior styling as the chalet. Hire from Perraudin Sports ski shop
offers the latest products from a knowledgeable team.

One we were kitted out, we headed up from the ski room via a lift to the main La Tzoumaz
gondola, to meet our instructor Niels from the Ecole Suisse de Ski & Snowboard La Tzoumaz.
The gondola bring you right to the top of the Savoleyeres part of the main Verbier ski area,
with it’s fantastic range of cruisy blue runs and selection of reds. From here you can easily
ski down to the Medran area of Verbier. Our instructor Neils was incredibly helpful with
those who needed gentle assistance, whilst also pushing those confident to try some off-
piste runs to the side of the piste, perfect on a waste deep powder day!

After a fantastic morning of skiing we stop at the fabulous Croix d Coeur restaurant with its
panoramic views of Verbier below and delicious rustic Swiss cuisine. Our second lunch spot
was the incredibly special and rarely visited Maison de La Foret, with its traditional Swiss
Alpine menu of locally sourced ingredients and fresh produce.

Returning to Chalet V after a long ski day, is heavenly! Champagne is served in the hot tub
and the pool is open and ready for action, complete with giant inflatable duck and mini
water golf. Spa treatments are available from a local masseuse for those who want to ease
soreness, work out muscle knots, improve circulation and reduce inflammation.

Chalet V welcomes guests all season long throughout Summer and Winter, with trekking,
mountain biking and a visit to the Wavegarden, surf park in Sion on the activities list.
This is a chalet like no other and certainly a stay that will love long in my memory as for its
outstanding attention to detail.

If you don’t return with a shopping list longer than your arm of items you want to copy from
them it will be a miracle!
