CRANS MONTANA RESORT GUIDE

Luxury ski holidays in one of the most beautiful settings in the Alps
ABOUT CRANS MONTANA
SKI INFO
BEGINNERS & KIDS

Crans Montana has one of the most beautiful settings in the Alps. Sitting at 1500m on a large south-facing plateau, this Swiss ski resort is one made up of the linked villages of Crans and Montana and has an animated atmosphere. Steeped in tradition, Crans is home to the oldest ever ski run, making it a truly authentic ski resort for a winter holiday.

Crans Montana is a fascinating ski resort in the heart of the Alps. With its access to glacier ski facilities, stunning mountain views and lots of sunshine this upscale ski resort gets increasingly popular among international travellers. Yet it still remains authentic and is never overcrowded. With a glacier reaching up to the resort’s high point, Pointe de la Plaine Morte, Crans Montana boasts 140km of pistes and is an intermediate’s paradise with red runs making up the majority of the piste map.

Sitting at the foot of the Plaine-Morte glacier, Crans Montana is covered with small lakes and has access to a ski area with 140km of slopes. Known to be an indulgence resort, and cosmopolitan playground in the mountains, Crans Montana has earned the title of “the largest alpine shopping facility in the world”.  Fashion, style and class are high on the agenda as famous names such as Cartier, Louis Vuitton and Hermes have all set up bases here.  And when you fire of shopping there is an abundance of gastronomic restaurants and health clubs to enjoy.

Sun-drenched and spectacularly located, Crans-Montana is among the crème de la crème of Alpine ski resorts. Essentially a twin town – Crans and Montana come together to become one of Valais’ best-loved ski holiday destinations. It is certainly a top choice amongst well-heeled skiers with its luxury chalets and gourmet restaurants, plus it hosts the Caprice music festival in April each year.

Crans Montana is a winter sports mecca. The resort offers 140 km of wide-open pistes for skiers and snowboarders, while the Plaine Morte glacier has year-round snow at 3,000 m.  The ski lift system is modern and well designed with virtually no queues. For advanced skiers, the World Cup pistes are challenging and the off-piste skiing extensive. This is an ideal resort for intermediates, with plenty of wide and long, red and blue runs. Whilst you ski you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views stretching from Mont Blanc in the west to the Matterhorn in the east.

The 12km slope that starts with stunning views from the Plaine Morte glacier at 2925m and ends amongst pretty woods at Les Barzettes is a must-do.

With 23 mountain restaurants and huts to sample this is a resort that knows how to mix skiing with total indulgence.

Crans Montana has quiet, uncrowded pistes that are well-groomed. It’s also known to be a fairly sunny resort, all in all making it a good place for learning to ski or snowboard.  Wide pistes on the mountain suit beginners who are ready to move on from the nursery slopes in the resort. Beginners have three short but easy runs on the Plaine-Morte Glacier, where good snow is guaranteed.

Crans Montana’s ‘snow garden’ is situated on a great flat area of land which is used in summer as a golf course. Children from the age of 3 upwards are welcomed to master the basics with the help of the area’s specialist instructors.

A certified Family Destination, Crans-Montana is an ideal place to spend great holidays, where young and old will find what they are looking for amongst the many activities on offer year-round.
