Luxury Ski Chalets in Italy

Fabulous scenery, great food and wine and incredible hospitality.

A blend of fabulous scenery, delicious food and jaw dropping scenery

A luxury ski holiday to Italy means that you get to enjoy not only fantastic skiing but also fabulous scenery, great food and wine and incredible hospitality. Whilst luxury ski chalet holidays in Italy are becoming more and more popular, the slopes are still much quieter than France and Austria, which means that you’ll definitely have a magical skiing break here. Skiing in Italy consistently impresses those who try it, with many vowing never to return to the overloaded pistes in neighbouring countries. For the avid skiers in the group, Italy has plenty of large, interlinked ski areas so there is plenty to explore all day; you can certainly get some serious kilometres in! For the more adventurous, there is the possibility of heliskiing in Italy which isn’t allowed in neighbouring France. Family ski holidays in Italy are popular as many of the resorts have easy tree-lined runs, great for beginners, as well as lots of activities off-mountain for the younger children to enjoy.

More about Luxury Catered Ski Chalets in ITALY

Italy Ski Facts

Skiing in Italy is about short lift queues, well-groomed pistes with great snow-making technology, plus diverse ski areas. But be sure to embrace the true laid-back, Italian style and enjoy a long scenic lunch stop before tackling your next runs. Despite being relatively unknown as a ski destination, Italy has 290 ski resorts, and you can look forward to 5,786 kilometres of slopes.

The two best-known ski areas in Italy are:

  • The Dolomites Ski Area – The huge Dolomiti Superski domain sprawls across the UNESCO-protected Dolomites and is home to an impressive 1,220km of pistes! You’d need to combine the 3 Valleys and Espace Killy in France, then throw in Austria’s huge Arlberg area too, to get anywhere close to that.
  • Milky Way Ski Area – Made up of seven ski resorts the “Via Latta” is one of the largest connected ski areas in Italy with over 400km of piste to explore.

When to ski in Italy?

The Italian ski season tends to run from early December through to late April, however, some of the higher ski resorts can run a bit longer. Choosing when to go all depends on what kind of luxury ski holiday you are looking for! The festive celebrations make a luxury ski holiday in December magical. For those wanting the best conditions, emptier slopes and best value for luxury ski chalets then January is the best month. February is a great time for families and late February and March start to bring the longer sunnier days. By April there is the risk of slushy afternoons, but you will benefit from warmer weather and can enjoy long Italian mountain lunches in the sunshine.

Why book a luxury ski holiday in Italy?

The spectacular Italian Alps are home to some of the most impressive ski resorts found anywhere in the world, and Italy is becoming increasingly regarded as one of the favourite luxury ski chalet holiday destinations in Europe. Like so much of Italy, their ski resorts can also have an effortlessly stylish ambience, so you can expect the best from your luxury Italian ski chalet.

For those wanting ultimate luxury, Cortina D’Ampezzo is Italy’s answer to Courchevel 1850 or St. Moritz. This Italian ski resort boasts designer boutiques, impressive mountain restaurants and a vibrant social scene, as well as spectacular luxury ski chalets, with stylish interiors and incredible facilities to make.

The resorts in the Milky Way offer an authentic Italian experience, and the luxury ski chalets here are of a supreme standard. The village of Pragelato is a traditional Italian resort linked to the resorts of Sauze D’Oux, Claviere and Montgenevre along with the smaller local neighbouring hamlet of Pattamouche. Many of the luxury Italian chalets here have been built to complement the charming local church and quaint local restaurants.

Kronplatz, also known as Plan de Corones, is a distinctive ski area in South Tyrol and is the perfect resort for those wanting to be away from the busy larger resort, and be within a traditional village. Kronplatz is home to one of the best luxury chalets in Italy, perfect for those wanting something a little more unique for their Italian ski holiday.
