Beginners and intermediates are also well catered in Cervinia with an extensive range of wide, easy slopes. There is a good nursery slope in the village with a magic carpet and an adjacent chairlift. Once you are confident, you can try the Plan Maison area.
Cervina is an excellent ski resort for families. There is a kids’ park adjacent to Lino’s Bar equipped with bouncy castles and sledges, spades for digging in the snow, playhouses and slides, and even baby skis for the littlest beginners.
An old mountaineering village in the beautiful Valle d’Aosta, Cervinia is a quaint mountain village with a cobbled main street that is traffic free. Sitting at an altitude of 2,050M, it is one of the highest resorts in the Alps. As expected from an Italian town, there is a huge focus on dining, with around 50 restaurants and a handful of après ski venues to choose from.
Cervinia is the perfect destination for skiers looking for long, cruisy red and blue runs. It doesn’t really have anything for an expert skier looking to challenge themselves however thanks to the proximity to Zermatt, a real haven for experts, it still has plenty to offer.
Cervinia is known for its fabulous atmosphere and events which run throughout the winter. You can experience local traditions, ranging from stunning Christmas markets to historic carnivals. Paying tribute to Cervinia’s mountaineering roots, the Cogne Ice Opening, in the town of Lillaz is a unique event to experience ice climbing in the Alps.

One of the largest ski areas in the Alps, Cervinia Ski Paradise encompasses 365km of pistes across three valleys in both Switzerland and Italy. Defined by three sectors, Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche on the Italian side, and Zermatt on the Swiss side. The area is connected by a vast network of slopes and lifts that allow you to ski all day without ever having to take your skis off. The main slopes above Cervinia are high and open, and mainly west-facing. The vast majority of the ski lifts are modern and fast, meaning lift queues are a rarity.

The highlight in Cervinia has to be the Ventina run, an 8km leg-burning extravaganza. For those who love long ski slopes you are certainly in the right resort, with one of the longest pistes in the world descending 13km from the Plateau Rosa at 3,480m, all the way down to Valtournenche at 1,525m.

Cervinia’s selection of more than 50 restaurants ranges from cosy cafes to gourmet evening meals, but you can be certain that all have the same focus on local, authentic cuisine served in an inviting atmosphere.
There are a number of bars in Cervinia to enjoy an apres ski drink with friends, as well as cafes to warm children up with a hot chocolate after a day skiing in Italy. Plus there are a number of venues hosting live DJs where it’s possible to continue your evening into the night! A couple of the more lively places to visit for evening entertainment in Cervinia would be Lo Yeti & Apres Ski Bar. Definitely worth a visit is Chalet Dragon which has a superb terrace and is a really popular spot on a sunny day.
Chalet Etoile – A hotspot for VIPs, the family-owned chalet has been drawing in visitors from far and wide from its prime position at the bottom of the Matterhorn. It is known for serving up traditional dishes with innovative flourishes.
Rifugio Gran Sometta – This is a rustic and low-key eatery with warm service and home cooking. Don’t miss the Testaroli pasta or the Stinco al forno.
Ristorante Bontadini – This is a fully stocked self-service restaurant that has large terraces with spectacular views of the mountains and the valley. It is easily accessible from the slope and can also be reached by snowshoes from Cime Bianche Laghi and Plan Maison.
La Chandelle – Decorated in the same classic, elegant style as the famous Hermitage hotel in which it is located, this spacious restaurant offers an impressive menu of modern yet unfussy dishes alongside a selection of more traditional options.
Wood – Decorated with a profusion of wood, this attractive bistro at the entrance to the village offers modern cuisine influenced by the traditions of the Aosta Valley and the chef’s native Sweden. The modern menu offers a harmonious balance of creative and regional dishes.
Le Bistrot de l’Abbé – Discover new tastes of Italian cuisine in the comfort of this cosy eatery. This place guarantees you good risotto, trout and polenta. Tasty chocolate fondue, strudels and are the tastiest dishes.
